A Castle for love
Boldt Castle is located on the Saint Lawrence River on an island known as Corazon, named after the shape of it and nowadays considered as a symbol of this feeling.The Castle was built by George Boldt as a gift of love for his wife Louise Augusta Kehrer.
The Boldt family, especially Louise, loved to spend their holidays in a picturesque country house located in the "Thousand Islands" , an archipelago of islands located between Canada and States United.It is for this reason that her husband promised to build a beautiful castle in her honor and thus be able to have a home in her favorite place.
Of all the islands, George chose Isla Corazon to build its castle on a two-hectare site.More than 300 workers were responsible for the construction of this great 6-story building, 120 rooms, gardens Italians, power plant, drawbridge, secret passages, dovecot and a tower for the children of the family.
A sad end
The work had to be finished before February 1905 , since Mr.Boldt wanted to give his wife such a lavish gift for on Valentine's Day .Unfortunately, Mrs. Louise died due to natural causes one year before the end of the work.
After the death of Mrs.Louise, Boldt in deep depression ordered to stop the construction of the castle that was to be for his beloved wife and but never returned to the island.
Boldt Castle was abandoned for more 73 years old , the vandalos and the elements deteriorated their structure; however, the castle returned to recover all its splendor after being acquired by the authorities of the Thousand Islands .
Currently a ferry carries to the tourists to this beautiful island so that they can meet and stroll through such a splendid place for free.It is also the scenario in which some lucky couples decide to seal their union, at last and After all, it is considered the most romantic island in the entire archipelago.
